Eduardo Quiles (Valencia, 1940) Cultiva el teatro, la narrativa y la poesía. En 1987 fundó en Valencia la revista Art Teatral especializada en escritura teatral y en difundir al autor de teatro contemporáneo publicando sus obras breves. Residió en la ciudad de México de 1972 a 1975 donde fue profesor de guiones en ILCE-UNESCO. Ha ejercido el periodismo y la crítica teatral. Autor de la novela El carnaval del relajo sobre América Latina, escribió Felipe II, Freud y Juicio a don Quijote para el canal 8 de Televisa. La BBC de Londres tradujo al inglés su obra Insomnio y la difundió en el Reino Unido. Su obra The Employee fue producida por la Universidad de Nueva York y posteriormente se estrenó en el Teatro Principal de Valencia, en el Teatro del Centro Cultural de la Villa de Madrid y en la Sala Mozart de Palma de Mallorca. En América Latina estrenó Pigmeos, vagabundos y omnipotentes (Teatro del Granero, México D.F., 1975) y la ira y el éxtasis. (La Habana, 1989). En 1984 fundó en Valencia la compañía teatral Escena Uno para difundir su teatro. Obras suyas estrenadas en España: La navaja, El frigorífico, El tálamo, Su majestad la Moda, El virtuoso de Times Square y Una Ofelia sin Hamlet. En EE.UU., Modern International Drama publicó en inglés ocho de sus obras más representativas. En Nueva York estrenó El frigorífico (1987) El Tálamo (1989), Una Ofelia sin Hamlet (1997), Elsa’s Goodbye (1996-1997), producida en Here Multi-Arts Center de Manhattan. En 1999 se estrenó en Nueva York, en The Miranda Theater, su libreto de ópera El adiós de Elsa. Ese mismo año se estrenó Una Ofelia sin Hamlet en Berlín como obra invitada en el marco del Congreso de Hispanistas Alemanes donde Quiles dio una conferencia en la Universidad de Berlín sobre su lenguaje teatral. Después se editaron en edición bilingüe alemán-español sus obras La navaja, El frigorífico y El adiós de Elsa. En 2001 apareció su libro Teatro del personaje, Obra Escogida, 573 págs., editado en Madrid por la Asociación de Autores de Teatro y en donde se incluyen veintidós de sus títulos entre obras largas, en un acto, minipiezas, libretos de ópera y algunos de los textos de sus conferencias impartidas. Ha obtenido el primer premio de Autores Nuevos (Lleida, 1971), el Premio Internacional Humor de México y el Premio Iberoamericano de Dramaturgia Infantil por la versión de su libreto de ópera El alquimista y los instrumentos musicales. Quiles figura en diversas antologías del teatro contemporáneo y ha viajado por Europa y EE.UU. para estrenar obras suyas y dar conferencias sobre su Teatro del personaje.

Eduardo Quiles (Valencia, Spain, 1940)
Playwright and director of the magazine, Art Teatral. Quiles taught script
writing at ILCE-UNESCO, Mexico, where he lived for many years and has delivered
lectures on theatrical writing. His play, The Employee, Mexican International
Humor Prize, was produced and performed for the first time by the New York
University. The Spanish version was first performed in the Cultural Theatre
Centre of the Villa in Madrid, at the Principal Theatre, Valencia, Mozart
Sala, Palma de Mallorca. Further works by Quiles that have been staged in
Spain: The Razor, The Fridge, The Bridal Chamber, His Majesty - Fashion, The
Virtuous of Times Square, Ophelia with no Hamlet. In Latin America, Pygmies,
Vagabonds and Omnipotents (Teatro del Granero, Direction: José Solé.
Mexico D.F. 1975) and Wrath and Ecstasy (Sala el Sótano, Direction:
Nicolás Dorr,) Havana, 1989. Quiles wrote Philip II, Freud and Don
Quixote's Trial for Channel 8, Televisa, Mexico. BBC, London, translated his
work Sleeplessness into English and had it broadcasted throughout the United
Kingdom. In New York. The Fridge was first performed in 1987, The Bridal Chamber
in 1989 and Ophelia with no Hamlet in 1997 and at the Here Multi-Arts Center
of Manhattan, Elsa's Goodbye in 1996-97. The opera Elsa's Goodbye, libretto
by Quiles, at the Miranda Theater, New York, in 1999. In the same year
Ophelia with no Hamlet was performed as a guest play in Berlin in the framework
of the Congress of German Hispanists. His works, The Razor, The Fridge, Elsa's
Goodbye were translated by Barbara Hedderich and published in German. In U.S.A.
Modern International Drama, published eight of his more representative works
in English. Among other awards Quiles received in 1971 in Lerida, Spain the
first prize for New Authors, and the Iberoamerican Playwrights Prize in 1994.
The Society of Theatrical Authors published in Madrid in 2001 a 573 pages
volume of Quiles under the title Theater of the Personage, Selected Works.
Eduardo Quiles is included in various anthologies of contemporary theatre
and has been invited by european and northamerican universities for performances
of his plays and to give conferences on his Theatre of the Personage
